20 May Thriving During COVID-19 – Dwelling in Goshen- A Place of Nearness
“You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.” – Genesis 45:10-11
The passage above was a statement made by Joseph to his father and family when they relocated to Egypt. It is a profound and prophetic statement. Bear in mind that Joseph is a “shadow” of Christ, which means he is a veiled symbol of Christ in the Old Testament. Goshen means a place of nearness, and it’s incredible what Joseph said; I will provide for you there.
Even amid the current economic uncertainty, Jesus, our heavenly Joseph, wants us close to Him so He can provide for us. In Exod. 8:22, God declared, “I will set apart the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there.” In Goshen’s land, God’s people were protected from all of the ten plagues that overwhelmed the land of Egypt during the time of Moses. One of the ten plagues was thick, paralyzing darkness covering the land of Egypt for three whole days. Yet, the Bible says, “all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.”
As I said, the story of Joseph has a powerful prophetic implication that is truly relevant for us today. We are living in days where we see the darkness of uncertainty cover the earth. But the Scriptures tell us that even when there’s thick and deep darkness around, we who are children of God will experience and enjoy God’s supernatural light in our dwellings.
Because we dwell in Goshen, a place of intimacy with God, we enjoy His protective covering to live fear-free and victoriously in these dark times. His goodness and mercy follow us even as dwell in the house of the Lord Forever all the days of your life.
May God bless you and remember to Stay CALM, SAFE, CLEAN, and SANCTIFIED.
